Images and files in notes
Drag a file into a note — an image, a PDF, a spreadsheet, anything — and Pellet files it in your vault and links it from where you dropped it.
Where it goes
Section titled “Where it goes”An Attachments folder by default. You can change that in Settings, and if you’d rather keep attachments beside the notes that use them, point it wherever suits.
The file is copied into your vault, not linked from wherever it was. Your vault stays self-contained: move the folder to another machine and the images still work.
Images
Section titled “Images”Show inline in both the editor and reading view. Drop, and it’s there.
From the camera
Section titled “From the camera”On a phone or tablet, Photo and Scan Doc put what you capture in the same Attachments folder, named for the moment you took it — Photo - 20260912.1433.07.jpg. A multi-page scan numbers its pages so they stay in order. See Pellet on mobile.
Banners
Section titled “Banners”Add banner, in a note’s ⋯ menu, puts a wide image across the top of the note. Four ways to choose one: upload a file, paste a link, pick an image already in your vault, or search Unsplash.
This sets the note’s banner. It does not insert a picture into the text; for that, drag the file into the note where you want it.
An uploaded banner is copied into your vault, under banners/ inside your attachments folder, so it travels with the vault like everything else. A link or an Unsplash photo stays a URL — it needs the internet to show, and it’s gone if the far end takes it down. Upload it if you want to keep it.
The Unsplash search is the one place Pellet talks to a service you didn’t configure, and only while you’re actively searching — your search term goes out, nothing about your vault does.
PDFs and ebooks
Section titled “PDFs and ebooks”Drop a PDF or EPUB into your vault and it opens in Pellet’s own reader, where highlights become notes. See Reading PDFs and ebooks.
Drop in an audio file and it plays inline, with a waveform you can scrub. Pellet can also record straight into your vault, and turn a recording into searchable text. See Voice notes and recordings.
Dragging notes into notes
Section titled “Dragging notes into notes”Dragging a note from the sidebar into an open note doesn’t copy it — it inserts a link to it. Usually what you wanted, and it saves typing the name.
Telling them apart
Section titled “Telling them apart”In the note list and the gallery, an attachment carries an icon for what it actually is — a recording, a video, an image, a PDF, an e-book, an archive, a spreadsheet, a script — rather than one generic document mark for everything that isn’t a picture.
Keeping it tidy
Section titled “Keeping it tidy”Attachments are ordinary files in an ordinary folder. If it grows unwieldy, reorganize it in Finder — Pellet follows, as long as the links still point somewhere real.
Renaming one
Section titled “Renaming one”Right-click the file in the list (or swipe it on a phone) and choose Rename. The box holds the name only — the extension is Pellet’s to keep, so a .pdf stays a .pdf however you rename it. Links to the file are rewritten to follow.
